"You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful."

Maria Skłodowska-Curie,
Polish and naturalised-French physicist and chemist. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and the only woman to win the Nobel Prize twice, and the only person to win the Nobel Prize in two different scientific fields.

About us

History

Alongside the APERTO Association, between 2014-2015 we led a ‘Polish Citizens Advice Centre’ based in London, offering free advice to Polish citizens. This activity was funded from the Polish Governmental Funds. High interests of the public in a free advice and the scale of needs, has encouraged us to establish the Polish Citizens Advice Centre in London. Therefore, we decided to set up charity under the British law. London Spark has been registered with the Charity Commission in March 2016 (no: 1165809).

Charitable objects

1) to promote social inclusion for the public benefit among members of the Polish immigrant community by preventing members of that community from becoming socially excluded, relieving their needs and assisting them to integrate into society.
For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being excluded from society, or part of society, as a result of being a member of a socially and economically deprived community.
2) the promotion of equality and diversity for the public benefit by:

  • (a) the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, disability , sexual orientation or religion;
  • (b) advancing education and raising awareness in equality and diversity;
  • (c) promoting activities to foster understanding between people from diverse backgrounds;
  • (d) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity.

3) to advance education for the public benefit in Polish culture, tradition and heritage.

Activities

London Spark was established to help the Polish community in London integrate better with the wider society. London Spark delivers following services:

  • Providing free legal advice to approximately 200 Polish residents in London annually
  • Prevention talks addressed to young people and their parent on juvenile gang’s grooming, youth violence and crime, sexual exploration delivered by Polish Speaking Child Protection Social Worker and conflict solving workshops run by Mediator at Polish Supplementary Schools in London
  • Parental courses to increase parental skills and improve public attitudes towards the social care system in the UK. They were organised with the cooperation of Polish Supplementary Schools in Ealing, Hounslow and Brent.
  • Cultural events to foster a better understanding of people from diverse backgrounds.

It is rewarding to help others

It is important to ensure a free and constant access to information and advice. Help from Polish speaking advisors is a key solution to solving many problems which Polish citizens are facing. We organised a charity ball to raise funds to set up the Polish Citizens Advice Centre. We opened the Centre in October 2017.
